KARMAYODHA - Malayalam Movie Review

"Karmayodha" deals with a serious subject – that of misusing young girls. With lot of incidents that evoke the anger and frustration among us, this movie is packed with high voltage actions and dialogues. With flesh trading becoming more prevalent in this society that we live, "Karmayodha" connects and carries you to another level.

Madhava Menon or popularly known as Mad Maddy (Mohanlal) is an encounter specialist based on Mumbai, whose don't care attitude towards them irks his senior officers. Movie started itself with an encounter mission by Maddy. Within no time, he was assigned another mission – that of finding a girl who went absconded. Soon enough he came to Kerala as a part of the investigation. Meanwhile, another girl from Kerala too was trapped by some rackets. On his way in search of the Mumbai girl, Maddy was forced to go through some extreme conditions which in turn exposed a big sex racket. Whether he has anything personal in this case, or does he succeed in getting those girls back is the rest of the movie.

The movie exposes exactly what is happening around us. While, the current scenario is bad, if not the worst for ladies, we wish some Maddies getting to action in real life. His attitudes towards those criminals are reasonably enough for understanding his tough character. Movie shows some unethical, but which every person wishes to do against flesh traders – like blasting the penis, or cutting the fingers. In fact, movie treats the plot in a manner that appeals the emotions rather than the prudence. In that way, we can assume that "Karmayodha" contains some violent elements.

At some places we might feel some confusion regarding the place of happenings when we are simultaneously shown those two girls getting missed from both Mumbai and Kerala. But we are arrived at a conclusion when the lead character decided to march towards Kerala as part of the investigation.

"Karmayodha" attempted some comedies which evoked a feeling of lines drawn at water. A movie which doesn't provided much space for comedies, relied heavily on the high voltage actions and the sparkling performance of Mohanlal. It is a one man show, I should say where in almost each frames Major Ravi captured Mohanlal. If it was Rajiv Pillai who assisted Mohanlal in Mumbai, Young actors Basil, Bineesh Kodiyeri, and Sanjeev turned out to be his buddies in Kerala.

Murali Sharma played the main villain character in "Karmayodha", where in you would see multiple villains at most times. The Bollywood actor played the psychopathic sex maniac character with at most care and was really nice at most parts. But, along with it what caught our attention is the girl who played the daughter character of Mohanlal. Not to mention Sai Kumar, Mukesh, or Asha Sharath who played their parts well.

The script written by the director itself started heating as early as from the first half. The electrifying performance by Mohanlal as Mad Maddy heightened the not so bad story to a thrilling movie. While we see Maddy as a man of no emotions in first half, we could see him breaking down towards the end of the movie. Of course the heart rendering performance of Maddy as a parent will stay at your minds even if you leave the halls. But, at times, the star in Mohanlal outplayed the actor within him.

"Karmayodha" at times turned to be a movie which is telling a moral story. But considering the serious issues that it is raising, we should consider the words of the character played by Janardhanan. We can see him almost in every house of our society which still occupies aged people. Girls getting trapped by their classmates are not new news to us. Then too, why these girls are getting caught…? That is the most serious question which "Karmayodha" arises. Songs as well as BGM were good, so is the cinematography.

On the whole looking back into "Karmayodha", you would see a movie that is cliché in most parts where it is trying to appeal both to the sentiments of families, along with high voltage action sequences aiming fans. Then too why this movie becomes close to our hearts is because of the society that we live now. You would probably like to have a Maddy in Delhi last week, where he is blasting the penis of those sex maniacs.

Verdict : SOCIALLY RELEVANT COMMERCIAL MASS  ENTERTAINMENT

Universal Star  Mohanlal's new Malayalam movie 'Grandmaster' got released today. This new movie, scripted as well as directed by B Unnikrishnan was produced by Ronnie Screwvala under the banner of UTV Motion Pictures. Thus far, 'Grandmaster' is getting a big thumbs up from the first day viewers all across the state.

This new film 'Grandmaster' is UTV's first ever production venture in Malayalam and it featured south Indian beauty Priyamani, playing the female lead, as Mohanlal's heroine for the very first time in her career. Apart from Mohanlal and Priyamani, this film also features Anoop Menon, Narain, Roma, Babu Antony, Mitra Kurian, Siddique, Jagathy Sreekumar etc in its cast.

In 'Grandmaster', a racy crime thriller, Mohanlal plays the role of I.G Chandrasekhar, chief of MCD. He, who is also a divorcee, lives alone in a dark and violent city. Even when unlawful incidents take place around him, he withdraws himself from all responsibilities and is happy to live quietly.

In this new movie 'Grandmaster', Priyamani plays the role of Deepthi, Mohanlal's ex-wife, who is also a lawyer. They both have a daughter, named as Daakshayani. Chandrasekhar is well bonded with his daughter and wishes to spend almost all his time with her.

Once, a letter arrives in his office and suddenly he is jolted into action. The writer of the letter is a self-confessed admirer of Chandrasekhar and wishes to rekindle the fire in him and invites him to a game of hide and seek. Rest of the film tells us why the writer is forcing Chandrasekhar to take up this case and how he goes after the writer and get him caught.

Once again, Mohanlal was splendid to watch in his new avatar of a cool, smooth-talking as well as sophisticated police cop. Priyamani looked good in her role of a matured lawyer. Even though, they have a very brief role to perform, actors like Narain, Anoop Menon, Jagathy Sreekumar were nice to watch. Among all, the most shocking performance was from Babu Antony, arguably the most powerful character offered to him so far. Others in the cast like Roma, Mitra Kurian, Riyaz Khan etc have also done their part well.

'Grandmaster' brought back the hit combo of director B Unnikrishnan and actor Mohanlal, after the megahit 'Maadambi' and this new movie can be termed as B Unnikrishnan's best ever work so far. Script as well as direction by B Unnikrishnan was very good and the major thing that worked in favour of this movie is the suspense element and justification of killing.

Music as well as BGM were terrific and suited well with the mood of this film. Cinematography by Vinod Ellampally, Art direction by Joseph Nellickal, Editing by Manoj, Costume by Satheesh have all been noteworthy.

All in all, this new Malayalam movie 'Grandmaster' is a well made thriller film that will have you at the edge of your seat from the very beginning itself.

 Rating : 4.5/5
 Verdict : Megahit

Casanovva - The messenger of Love

Hello Guys, Casanovva - the most expected and stylish movie which has been in the news for the last three years has got released in around 200 theatres. Atlast the movie is here to break all the collection records of mollywood. Everyone will have great expectation when the dream combo Acting Legend Mohanlal Sir, Direction perfectionalist Roshan Andrews and the Ace Script writers Bobby-Sanjay joins together. All the three have good track record and this is the reason why the movie got a sky high hype before its release. Here is our review about the Film Casanovva.

First of all we like to say all that Casanovva is not an action packed thriller, it is a 100% Love story with a some good action sequence. Casanovva is an admirer of all beautiful things especially womens. He is also the owner of ‘Casanova’s Eternal Spring’, an international chain of flower boutiques. Always seen in the company of the most beautiful women, he has at his beck and call a faithful array of female followers – staff, friends and former girlfriends – who will do anything for him. A man who is constantly awakening envy in all men and romance in all women, Casanova’s philosophy in life is simple – love cures all. With his penchant for the good life, it is little wonder that four enterprising young criminals decide to use him in their quest for some quick money. First half was simply good with an awesome interval punch even it there was a bit dragging and second half mostly concentrates on flashback & Casanovva's romance with Sameera(shriya). I am not going into not much story.

Coming to the performances, Mohanlal our lalettan has done a power packed and attractive performance as Casanovva. He was amazing with his appearances, cute smile, dances and actions. It seems this is the ever stylish character done by Mohanlal till date and he just lovable as Casanovva. We can bet you that none other than Mohanal could do this role as like this. All the heroines Shirya saran, Lakshmi Rai, Sanjana and Roma has done wonderfully. But the one to notice is Shriya Saran's character and the combination scenes between mohanlal and Shriya is that much awesome. The Villian's and all the others has also did justice to their roles especially Riyas Khan, Lalu Alex, Shankar, Dimple Rose etc..

The story is just simple and predictable, but the script and dialogues from bobby-Sanjay made it worth and strong. About direction and camera, there is nothing to say about it as Roshan Andrews and Gim Ganesh was successful in getting things to the screen. Song which got relases earlier this month has already been in the hit charts. The third one and the introduction song "Kanna nee.." is a good one and gave a great introdution to Casanovva's character. But we really misses the song "sakhiye sakhiye ..". Other improtant noticing factor is the BGM done by Gopi Sundar which meets what film needs.

Overall Casanovva is a Stylish Romantic film with a mediate action sequences. Its for you... Go watch and Fall in Love.. :)

Wait is over... The much awaited movie from the most celebrated pair in Malayalam, Priyadarshan-Mohanlal "Arabiyum Ottakavum P Madhavan Nairum - Oru Marubhoomi Kadha" has released all across Kerala. As per the initial reports, this new Malayalam film that has come with the tag line of "a complete rib-tickling comedy entertainer" has lived upto it's expectation and is recieving very good responses from the viewers.

This new film is all about P.Madhavan Nair(Mohanlal) who works as an Accountant in Abu Dhabi and he is all set to marry his fiance Meenakshi(Lakshmi Rai). But due to some misunderstandings that happened in between he decided to commit suicide and on the way he came across with his old friend Abdu(Mukesh) and a bubbly young girl, Eliana(Bhavana) in various situations and from there own the film takes a drastic change. All these three have their own issues and they join together to solve each others problem, which forms the crux of the story.

This new film "Arabiyum Ottakavum P Madhavan Nairum - Oru Marubhoomi Kadha" is just the continuation of those films (Slapstick comedy) that a normal viewer expects from the Mohanlal-Priyadarshan combo. Just like their previous films, this film too is made to entertain the viewers and it has done it in style. Some people as well as certain websites are trying to degrade this film saying that it doesn't feature a good story or there is no logic in it, but those people should understand one thing that a film that belongs to this genre, is meant for making the viewers laugh at their best and this film has succeeded in it.

In the technical side, Priyadarshan who is known as the Showman of Malayalam film industry has decided to stick on to his trademark style of making slapstick comedies and it turns out to be a well appreciable one. Cinematography by Alagappan was excellent since he gave us an oppurtunity to watch Abu Dhabi desserts in the most stylish way like never before. Art direction by Sabu Cyril is the other area which needs a mention here. Songs as well as bgm scored by M.G.Sreekumar seems to get perfectly linked with the situations.

In the acting side, the main highlight happens to be the reunion of the Mohanlal-Mukesh team. Just like the films Boeing Boeing, Vandanam, Kakkakuyil etc here also both have excelled in their own ways. Sometimes it even felt like that a creative clash is going on between both these actors since both of them try to steel the show in their own ways. Mohanlal was just awesome in his trademark expressions and comic timing where as Mukesh was terrific with his one line comedies. It should be noted that Bhavana was able to make a mark by herself in a film that featured the acting legends like Mohanlal and Mukesh. Others like Lakshmi Rai, Nedumudi Venu, Suraj Venjaramoodu too have made their roles excellent.

All in all, this new film is an out and out complete family entertain and I prefer you to watch this film since it offers a lot to laugh.

Lyrics                             : Rafique Ahmed

The Most loved Combo in Malayalam Movie World , Mohanlal - Sathyan Anthikad teams up again for their latest outing , SnehaVeedu . The movie lovers expect nothing but a Mega hit Family Entertainer whenever they team up and SnehaVeedu simply fit into those category . Every Movie lover adore those ageless nostalgic flicks , that makes the expectation go up when this duo comes up with SnehaVeedu .

Ajayan (Mohanlal) has worked in the Gulf and also in Chennai, comes back to his village to look after his ageing mother Ammukutty Amma (Sheela)and to get her love and the nostalgia of his growing up years. There, he starts a company for producing agricultural equipments and earns his living as a farmer.

The plot moves along with the introduction of characters like Karimkannan Mathai (Innoncent) and his wife (KPAC Lalitha), who is not yet ready to forgive their daughter (Lena) for eloping with sub inspector Balan (Biju Menon), one after the other. Then there is Sunanda (Padmapriya), who works in a soap manufacturing unit.

The whole story takes a different turn with the entry of Karthik (Rahul Pillai), a teenager who has come from Chennai, claiming that he is Ajayan’s son. The boy soon becomes close to Ammukkutty Amma, though Ajayan is desperately trying to prove that Karthik is not his son.The effect of this incident on Ajayan's life and how he handles it forms the crux of the story.

"Snehaveedu" is a mix of melodrama and sentimentalism peppered with humour. The Sathyan Anthikkad's usual impact is there throughout. The first half is rollicking and funny and stands as main higlight of the flick. Shortly after second half , it is little slow and especially the climax  is  liken every sathyan touch movie taste.

The two lead players superstar Mohanlal and veteran Sheela are in top form here. Sheela who plays Mohanlal's mother gives a splendid performance and Mohanlal too matches well. Rahul Pillai, a new face who comes with a turning point of the flick, is rated with Good performance. Padmapriya is aptly cast. Sathyan Anthikkad's usual actors Mammukoya, Innocent, KPAC Lalitha do their roles neatly. Biju Menon, Lena, Reeja, Sasi Kallinga, Praveen all have put in their best efforts to make their parts look perfect.
Sathyan Anthikad's takings strikes the right chord. His writings tries to cater to the taste of the family audience by making a sensible film.Cinematographer Venu, who is on full form with his nice visuals and fabulous frames.  Ilaiyaraja's music also very good in this movie

Overall like all typical of Sathyan Anthikkad films,'Snehaveedu' has humour and pathos.

All in all, this new Malayalam movie 'Snehaveedu' is a perfect Sathyan Anthicad movie, that will surely work big time with the family audiences. I prefer you to watch this movie, since it is a clean family entertainer in Malayalam, after a very long time.

Verdict: Family Entertainer.

Pranayam - A lovely Poetry on the celluloid from Blessy-Mohanlal team

Everyone must have loved or loved by someone atleast once in a lifetime. Theare are many love stories which shows different kind and style of Love. But "Pranayam" - the new malayalam film from the Veteran director Blessy is a Love story which was told in an unusal way. He starts the movie by saying "True Love comes quietly like bell without lights". Right from the heart of Blessy, here is a story about love, that emotion that can take many dimensions and touch man’s heart in unexpected ways! Pranayam, a movie on love is a poem, which has blossomed in the heart of Blessy.

Technical side and performance:

Blessy, who have more than 25 years experience has done brillianty in bringing the emotions of the characters on the screen and touch's our heart with the simple way of telling the story. The dream Trio - Mohanlal, Anupam Kher and Jayapradha has done the main roles in the movie and coming to the performance part, all have done extremely well, especially Mohanlal and Jayapradha. Anupam Kher as Achutha Menon and Jayaprada as Grace were really terrific to watch, but the stealer of the show happens to be our Mohanlal, who potrayed a character of retired Philosophy professor, Mathews, who is on a wheel chair, after a stroke that left him partly paralyzed. This film proves why he is regarded as one of the most talented actor India has ever produced. From the music department, the duo of M Jayachandran - ONV Kurup have delivered whatever was required from them and also the BGM score by M Jayachandran is well suited with the feel of this movie. Other fields, that requires special mention here happens to be the cinematography done by Satheesh Kurup and art direction by Prasanth Madhav.

Verdict:
After watching the movie Pranayam, we strongly realize that talents in Mohanlal hasn't changed yet, but the Audience has changed these days and they are really opting fast movies in these fast moving life. Mohanlal, the actor who really surprises all whenever he get a strong character to play and he is still showing magic through his performances. In pranayam, you can't see a superstar but can see "the complete actor" who acted naturally to the core. Also we have a question to ask all directors who critises Mohanlal when he comes with a mass masala movie, why should you give him such chance to do roles like Blessy sir is giving to him. We are really thanking Blessy Sir and all the crew of Pranayam for giving us such a brilliant film and a chance to experience the new way of Loving.

All in all, this Pranayam is a top class film which make us feel the fragrance of pranayam inspite how old we are. This film is a sure treat for those genuine film lovers, who have been waiting for such a film in Malayalam. You are highly recommended to watch this movie for it's emotionally touching way of making and for some stunning acting performances from the lead actors.
